Since the outset TED has been pioneering in its approach to the integration of research into teaching, where the transmission of ideas works both ways.

Research-active teaching staff are bringing research thinking into the taught curriculum, and students are then actively engaging with these ideas and contributing and participating in research development and projects. This enlarges the collective reflection of the research community and often leads to the development of new teaching methods, both in the theory and studio contexts.

The occasional opportunity encouraged by the research group, for individual students to attend conferences and disseminate the latest research thinking in the subject, has established an atmosphere of sharing information in a way which is evident in the student outcomes and in the ongoing contact between staff and graduates.
