Wall: Digital Hands

Date: 2009 - ongoing

Principal Investigator: Prof. Kay Politowicz, with Lorna Bircham and Clara Vuletich

Funded by: HEIFE (2010 only)

This is a collaborative project between TED and several partners in India that brings together traditional crafts with emerging technologies to anticipate new solutions in the sustainable design and production of textiles for the furnishing sector.

The key Indian partners include several small textile companies with environmentally sustainable practises: hand woven silk from Assam (North East Handicraft and Handloom Development Corp), hand printing and embroidery from Gujurat (Bodhi) and new emerging digital textile production from Delhi (Digitex India Inc.). The main aim is to broaden the scope for interior fabrics to have an appeal for both discerning Indian and western consumers. The resulting model of practice could be transferred to other geographical locations and markets.
